Oparty na faktach film "The Children of Huang Shi" jest mądrą i zarazem osobistą opowieścią osadzoną w realiach spustoszonych przez wojnę Chin lat 30-tych ubiegłego stulecia.
Fabuła koncentruje się na historii młodego, angielskiego dziennikarza (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), amerykańskiej (Radha Mitchell) i dowódcy chińskiej partii powstańczej (Chow Yun Fat) którzy spotykają się w nader rozpaczliwych i nieoczekiwanych okolicznościach. Ocaliwszy wspólnie sześćdziesięcioro dzieci, prowadzą je w wyczerpującą podróż po zdradzieckich terenach ówczesnych Chin, począwszy od pokrytych śniegiem łańcuchów górskich a skończywszy na niebezpiecznych pustyniach. Dzielenie trudów wędrówki owocuje jednak poznaniem prawdziwego znaczenia miłości, odpowiedzialności i odwagi - wartości trwale wpisanych w dalekowschodni ethos bohaterski.
